Halfway between Aix-en-Provence and Saint-Maximin, Château des Ferrages is one of four fortified sites that shaped the history of Pourcieux. Typical of Renaissance architecture and flanked by a large wooded park, it once overlooked the village. History has swept away much of the building, leaving only a tower and a few architectural remains. But its most precious treasure is undoubtedly the wine estate that bears its name.
Planted up to 400 metres in altitude on clay-limestone soils, the vines benefit from a Mediterranean climate with continental influences. Flanked by two massifs — the Sainte-Victoire mountain on one side and Mont Aurélien on the other — the estate often receives more rainfall than the rest of Provence and is protected from extreme heatwaves. Winters bring a few frosts, allowing the vines a good period of dormancy. This natural coolness is one of the estate's key assets. While rosé quickly established itself as the obvious choice here, certain hillside plots soon revealed their potential for producing red and white wines. Two Parcel Selections have since emerged, on land now farmed biodynamically.
These 28 hectares yield wines carefully aged in the cellar of Château des Ferrages. This cellar, covering more than 1,000 m², combines modern winemaking techniques with traditional ageing. Its Côtes de Provence and Côtes de Provence Sainte-Victoire wines are regularly awarded at competitions and featured in leading wine guides.
