Maud & Matthieu Negrel
Founded in 1813, Mas de Cadenet is a 60-hectare wine estate that has belonged to the Negrel family for seven generations. Located at the foot of Sainte-Victoire, it is run by Maud and Matthieu Negrel and is recognised as a pioneer of both the AOP nCôtes de Provence Cru Sainte-Victoire and organic winegrowing.
Mas de Cadenet is nestled in an exceptional setting at the foot of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, just a stone's throw from Aix-en-Provence. Here, the panorama inspires joy and the Provençal art of living. As a fun fact, "Mas de Cadenet" means "estate planted with Cade" in Provençal — this juniper shrub, typical of our hills, lines every path on the estate.
The heart of the Negrel family has been beating here since 1813. Seven generations have passed down this terroir, and above all a passion, making them today one of the oldest winegrowing families in Provence.
The family farms its vines and makes its wines organically in order to express the character of this exceptional site. Beyond that, it is above all an ethical choice — a respect for the work accomplished by past generations while preserving the future for generations to come. The idea of a family estate takes on its full meaning here: "We do not inherit the land from our parents, we borrow it from our children." The estate produces 70% rosé, 15% red and 15% white. Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle and Syrah make up the estate's grape varieties. To capture the true singularities of this terroir as faithfully as possible, several cuvées are crafted according to soil type, vine age and their potential. This meticulous, upstream approach gives each cuvée a precise and distinctive style.
